The Signing Of The Settlement Agreement
At a private ceremony on March 28th in Victoria, myself along with Councillors Jack and Burt, and members of our Settlement Agreement team gathered with the Hon. Scott Fraser, Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation and other representatives of the Province.
We were there on your behalf to sign the Settlement Agreement that you approved on March 14th. Today, the Province of BC distributed a news release providing some details about the signing ceremony. The news release outlined that the Settlement Agreement provides restitution and redress for impacts suffered by our ancestors when they were forcibly evicted from their homes in 1952 to make way for the Nechako Reservoir. The full release can be viewed here.
The Province has agreed to our request that the detailed financial terms of the Settlement Agreement remain confidential for one year, while we complete negotiations with other parties.
We respectfully ask that our members continue to keep these sensitive financial details of the Settlement Agreement confidential as well.
