ABOUT CHESLATTA CARRIER NATION
Cheslatta Carrier Nation (CCN) is a First Nations community of 350 members located 25 km south of Burns Lake in BC’s northern interior. CCN’s Core Territory encompasses the Nechako Reservoir and includes portions of Tweedsmuir and Entiako Provincial Parks.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Cheslatta Carrier Nation is seeking an experienced Natural Resource Manager to oversee resource projects and activities in Cheslatta’s Core Territory. This role involves managing relationships with key stakeholders, operational contracts, and contributing to sustainable resource management. The position requires project management aligned with Cheslatta Carrier Nation’s values.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee implementation of Provincial and Rio Tinto Agreements.
Build and maintain relationships with community members, Rio Tinto, the Province of BC, and First Nations.
Manage contracts and liaise with the Province of BC, Rio Tinto, and partners.
Develop and manage budgets, providing timely reports to leadership.
Oversee resource and history/culture projects, ensuring completion on time and within budget.
Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Participate in emergency response efforts.
Perform other related duties as and when requested by Cheslatta Carrier Nation.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, or a related field (equivalent experience will be considered).
Minimum 3 years of experience working with First Nations, industry, and government.
Proven relationship-building with First Nations and communities.
Familiarity with Cheslatta Carrier Nation’s traditional territories, history, and culture.
Valid Class 5 driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Availability for emergency response outside regular hours.
Experience in fish and wildlife management is an asset.
Drone operation and marine vessel certifications are assets.
Knowledge of BC Forest industry is an asset.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a full-time position based at Cheslatta Carrier Nation. Starting compensation ranges between $85,000 - $95,000; salary is negotiable based on qualifications and experience.
